Why SEO is less complicated than you think
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is often unfairly seen as a complex and mysterious field. Many companies fear that it is too technical and time-consuming to tackle on your own, but actually, you can achieve great results with limited knowledge and small interventions. In this article, we explain why SEO doesn't necessarily have to be complex or technical, and how you can tackle it yourself to increase your online visibility. With the right approach, you can attract additional traffic to your website in the short term.
Understand the basics
The core of SEO revolves around three basic principles: keywords, content and link building.
Keywords: these are the terms potential customers use to search for your products or services. Finding the right keywords is essential. You do this using a keyword analysis, a study of common search queries in search engines. Tools such as Google Keyword Planner or Google Search Console can help you do this.
Content: good content is the backbone of SEO. Make sure your website provides valuable, relevant and unique information that responds to the keywords you've identified. Empathize with the mindset of your target audience, and try to use your content to answer the questions and problems they might have.
Link building: this involves obtaining links to and from other websites. These links act as recommendations and help search engines determine the relevance and authority of your website. Link building usually refers to external link building, but internal link building (within your own website) is just as important. So make sure that the content on your website contains enough links, both external and internal.
Use simple tools
There are plenty of easy-to-use tools and plugins available that can help you with SEO, even if you don't have a technical background. Some popular tools are:
Optimize your content for search engines.
Google Search Console: a free tool from Google that provides insight into how your website is performing in search results and offers suggestions for improvements.
Google Search Planner or Moz: offers a suite of SEO tools for keyword research, site audits and link building.
Stay consistent
SEO is not a one-time effort, but an ongoing process. By regularly publishing new content, keeping your Web site up-to-date and constantly working to get quality links, you will see your rankings improve. It's important to be patient and stay consistent, but that doesn't mean it has to take a lot of time. For example, you can achieve great results with just a few hours a month.
Learn from your competitors
One of the best ways to understand what works in your industry is to look at your competitors. Analyze the websites that rank high for your keywords. Pay attention to their content, keywords and link profiles. What are they doing well? But also, what are they not doing well and what keywords are they ignoring? Maybe that's exactly where the opportunities lie for you to seize!
Focus on the user
Ultimately, SEO is about delivering a great user experience. Search engines like Google or Bing want to provide their users with the best results. By providing valuable and informative content, a user-friendly website and fast load times, you will not only improve your search engine rankings, but also satisfy your customers.
So SEO does not have to be at all as complicated as it is sometimes presented. By understanding the basics and using simple tools, you can go a long way and attract more visitors to your website. So, what are you waiting for?
